“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” is the dumbest saying. Words can hurt people. So today, while the Pride Parade occurs in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego from 12 p.m. through Sunday until 8 p.m., think of all those individuals – even if we don’t understand them – who are fighting for their civil rights.
Although I’m not a gay woman, I can only imagine the trials gay people endure. Sexual orientation is not what makes a man or a woman. Skin color has nothing to do with a person. It’s what’s in their hearts and how they treat others that matters or doesn’t matter.Freedom of speech is so precious in this country. Yet, it’s time we stop treating each other poorly and name calling for no reason. It’s horrible for an individual to ridicule someone just because he or she is gay.
Good luck to all those marching in the Hillcrest parade!
